I’d like to start this post by saying how nauseated I am of seeing everyone’s Aurora photos, they’re all amazing. A once in a lifetime opportunity to see the Northern lights at home has passed me by and I will just have to be content with the sunshine and blue seas of this idyllic Greek Island.
Sometimes, you don’t realise you need a rest until you actually stop… and then you can’t find the will to do anything. When the Ferry PA system announced our arrival in Greece, it felt a bit monumental because this was always a significant leg of our journey. We were also informed that we were now on Greek time which was essentially the same as changing the clocks by an hour. But not the good one where you get an extra time in bed, the crap one where you lose sleep. Essentially, we disembarked at 4:30 in the morning and our vague plan to take a ferry to Corfu was scuppered because we had no inclination to wait for a ferry ticket office to open.

It was only an hour and a half drive to another island, Lefkada. We pulled for a quick powernap on the way which turned into a two-hour snooze and when we finally pulled into a campsite our time in paradise felt a bit like a disaster because the campsite was shite, the van was having issues with the ABS system and we desperately needed all our washing done. All of a sudden everything felt too much. The easiest thing to do was nothing.
The next day we got cracking on the washing, the brakes seemed better and may have just had a momentary glitch, and we drove half an hour to a new site right by a beautiful beach. Everything changed. This is the third day here and we haven’t done much of anything. Yesterday we had a lingering lunch on the harbourside and today I have only managed to read my book for a while and put down some scraps for the ants while watching them whisk it down into the nest.

Later we may have another one of those lunches to celebrate my 49th birthday.
The only downside I can report is the unsettling presence of two-inch murder wasps, bees or hornets that buzz by from time to time. We’re trying to Google what they may be but whenever one comes close, we’re too busy running away to get a good look.
If we don’t end up in hospital, this feels a bit like paradise.
